On April 6, 1862 the Federal Army defending the Peach Orchard at Shiloh were under orders to hold at all cost. The Confederates had tried in vain, with heavy loses, four times previously to take the Peach Orchard. Some Confederates were hesitant to attack again until Generals Albert Sydney Johnston and John C. Breckinridge let out a mighty shout which rose high above the sounds of the battle. A Confederate wave ensued that could not be stopped. On they charged, in hot pursuit of the breaking and fleeing Federals.
